VIC: Bracks urged to be tough on Yallourn workers
MELBOURNE, Feb 7 AAP - The Victorian government was urged today to deal harshly with
any Yallourn Energy workers who refuse to return to work tonight.
Premier Steve Bracks invoked the Electricity Industry Act today to order striking workers
back to the plant by 6pm.
Mr Bracks said that if they ignored the order they risked fines of $10,000, while the
company faced fines of up to $1 million if it did not resume supplying power.
Opposition Leader Denis Napthine warned the government not to extend its order beyond 6pm.
