NSW: Eight charged over drug haul on NSW south coast

SYDNEY, April 3 AAP - Eight people have been charged following raids on the NSW southcoast which netted cannabis worth $300,000.

Police said six raids were carried out simultaneously on homes at Mt Warrigal, AlbionPark and Oak Flats about 9.30am (AEST) yesterday.

A large sum of cash and elaborate drug cultivation equipment were seized from the propertiesduring the raids.

A 35-year-old Albion park man was charged with cultivating an indictable quantity ofa prohibited plant, supplying a prohibited drug, possession of a prohibited weapon andgoods in custody.

A 44-year-old Mount Warrigal man was charged with cultivating an indictable quantityof a prohibited plant and supplying a prohibited drug.

The two men were remanded in custody overnight and are due to appear in Port KemblaLocal Court this morning.

Six other people were also charged as follows:

* a Barrack Heights woman, 42, was charged with cultivating a prohibited plant;

* an Oak Flats man, 29, was charged with cultivating a prohibited plant, goods in custodyand possession of a prohibited weapon;

* a Mt Warrigal man, 29, was charged with cultivating an indictable quantity of a prohibitedplant;

* an Albion Park man, 43, was charged with knowingly taking part in the cultivationof a prohibited plant and supplying a prohibited drug;

* an Albion park man, 35, was charged with cultivating a prohibited plant;

* and an Albion Park man, 49, was issued with a cannabis caution notice from possessionof a prohibited drug.

Five of the six have been released on conditional bail and are due to appear in PortKembla Local Court on April 24.

The raids were carried out by officers from Strike Force Refractus, set up this yearto investigate the cultivation and distribution of cannabis.
